About Norman Shihan
Shihan Norman Robinson has been studying martial arts his entire life. He started with Judo and later studied karate from books. Shihan Norman and Sensei Stan Schmidt pioneered JKS in South Africa. Shihan Norman is the founder of JKS in South Africa and is very active, to this day.

About our Shihankai
Shihan André started karate at age 8. His father Chris Kok Sensei woke him every morning before school for training sessions with Eddie Dorey Sensei. After school, he went directly to the dojo for more training. In his 20’s, he trained with Stan Schmidt Shihan and Malcolm Dorfman Shihan. In 1992, he joined Shihan Norman’s dojo. Shihan André graded for 5th, 6th and 7th Dan in front of a Japanese panel headed by Asai Shihan and Kagawa Shihan. Shihan André graded to 8th Dan in 2016 and is currently the technical director of JKS South Africa.

About our Shihankai
Lourencia Shihan started karate with her older sister at age 15. Her sister had told her of a “Bruce Lee” training at the club and so convinced her to start as well. When they graded to orange, they started free fighting in the dojo, her sister wasn’t all too keen, but Lourencia Shihan couldn’t wait for floor time. This “Bruce Lee” was a younger Andre Shihan. Lourencia Shihan graded to 7th Dan in 2016, the first woman in the style worldwide to have achieved this level.
